The Crafty Kit Company & Sustainability

In January 2021 we were thrilled to be awarded “Best Sustainable Craft Company” in the Craft Business Awards.

As a company, we are always striving to make a positive contribution towards a more sustainable future, and to impact lives through inspiration, creativity and fun.

Winner Best Sustainable Craft Company 2021

We’re very proud to produce our kits here in Scotland, providing jobs in our local area, and contributing to the local economy. Our needle felting kits all contain Corriedale wool fleece; a 100% natural material that is fully biodegradable with no plastic content; and are packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes.

For many years we have also committed to making regular donations to projects, both in the UK and abroad, that are in line with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Goals, which include: no poverty, no hunger, good health, clean energy, protect the planet, life below water, and peace and justice.

For each kit that we make, we donate one ‘impact’, contributing, through B1G1, to good causes throughout the world, including wildlife and humanitarian projects, such as providing clean water to families in Malawi, and providing meals for adult koalas affected by the Australian wildfires of 2020. The launch of our new website in 2020 gave us a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our accountability by including an “Impact Counter”, which measures in real time the donations made, and the lives, communities and environmental impacts which benefit from them.

The subject matter of our products can also make a less direct, but equally important contribution to sustainability. Many of The Crafty Kit Company’s kits celebrate the wonderful diversity of UK and world wildlife, and are stocked by conservation organisations such as the RSPB, Zoological societies, and several National Parks. Research cited by the RSPB suggests that connections made with nature and wildlife can bring benefits not only to the health and well-being of people, but also, through positive engagement, to the conservation of nature. Truly the best of both worlds.

Like all companies, we know that we can and should work to improve our sustainability: a desire to do better is one of our core values, and as we grow and improve, we will continue to share our progress with you.
